Question
I read your travel stories and wondered where you booked your Blue Mountains tour? Which company was that? – Jasmin
Answer
Hi Jasmin,
Thanks for reading my stories! Visiting the Blue Mountains is one of the most popular day trips from Sydney and I can definitely recommend it. As a travel agent, this was by far the most popular tour I’ve sold. And who doesn’t like endless views, a long hike, waterfalls, Aboriginal rock formations and so on?
There are many tour operators in Sydney that sell day trips to the Blue Mountain area. Their itineraries are pretty much the same. The difference in price usually has to do with lunch being included or not, the way they bring you back to the city and whether they visit other attractions in the area, such as a wildlife park and/or Sydney Olympic park.
One of the cheapest companies is The Happy Coach. They leave every day of the week and have lunch included. It was the tour I’ve booked most for our guests. Another company I recommend is OZ Trails, this tour doesn’t include lunch, but has an Olympic Park stop and boat ride back to the city included. The only thing that both tours don’t include is a ticket to Scenic World.
The first time I went to Sydney in 2006, I did a Blue Mountains day trip with Wonderbus Tours. Looking back on it, it was quite expensive, but everything was included, such as lunch, 3 rides on Scenic World, visit to a local village and when I booked it, a wine tasting session, Olympic Park visit and boat ride back to the city.
I’d like to end this answer with a secret budget tip for the poor backpackers amongst you. If you really don’t want to spend around 70-100 dollars on a guided tour to the Blue Mountains (as I can understand), going by train might be something for you. It’s so easy:
Take the CityRail train to Central Station and hop on the (how convenient) “Blue Mountains Line train”. This will take you in about 2 hours to station “Katoomba”, where you get off and simply walk to Echo Point (30 minutes), the lookout over the Blue Mountains. Bring your own food & drinks and enjoy a lovely day of walking. Don’t miss the last train though!
